Fall Dinner Party Celebrates an Autumn Tablescape

Do you love to have dinner parties? I do. An autumn tablescape is a great time for a fall dinner party to celebrate the season.

An autumn tablescape is a lovely setting for a delicious fall dinner of seasonal ingredients. The changing season is the perfect opportunity to gather friends.

The fall season is so rich in color that it is easy to find accessories to dress your autumn tablescape. Here are ideas to inspire you.

Celebrate Autumn with a Fall Dinner Party Tablescape

Usually, it’s a small thing that perks my inspiration for a project. In this case, it was this set of ramekins that belonged to Sweet Shark’s mother. I realized that I had just the perfect fall colors to complement the motif of the ramekins.

TIP: Find a color, pattern, or object to be your theme source and then work around it.

I set one ramekin and one napkin on each place setting of dinner plate, salad plate, and bread and butter plate in our Eternal by Lenox pattern. I used napkins in the colors of the ramekin on each place setting.

I knew that I wanted to use a galvanized tub I had on hand and white hydrangeas as the main centerpiece.

A few weeks ago, I found these sheaves of wheat at Pier 1 and loved the organic look and the neutral color. I wrapped them with burlap ribbon and sage green ribbon. The ribbon was from my older daughter’s wedding presents ~ never throw anything away!

As you can see, the next step was to add these twig pumpkins that I have had for years.

Last year I had painted 3 orange pumpkins with Old White Chalk Paint. I had 1 more, so I painted it with Matte White Spray Paint. The stems were plain brown and I wanted to bring in some metallics so I spray painted the stems in gold.

I set burnt~orange candles on 2 of my rose bowl stands. Next, I enhanced them with some faux berries and surrounded them with ceramic pumpkins.  Those were an antique mall purchase.

I wanted name tags for my guests and again pumpkins and gold spray paint played a role. Next week I’ll show you how I made them.

I completed the tablescape with our Buttercup silverware. We inherited the cut~glass goblets from Sweet Shark’s grandmother. I found the lace placemats in mint condition at a garage sale. 12 for $12 ~ a steal.

I went for a fairly clean look. My pumpkins, candles, hydrangeas, and wheat are the focus of my table. And, of course, my sweet little ramekins. I think I will use them for our dessert course.

I hope you liked my autumn tablescape. It was fun to do and I love how our home looks when you come in the front door.

    1. Thanks so much Kathy. I was surprised how well they went together. I’ll be trying some different flowers in the coming weeks. Please check back at Bluesky Kitchen.

  1. Carol,
Your fall tablescape is so pretty. You have given me an idea about how to make a place card holder. As always, I come away from your posts inspired by their beauty and great ideas. Thank you for joining Monday Social. Hope to see again at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

    Judith

    1. Judith, ideas spark new ideas! Thanks for the sweet comments. I’m driving home from BlogHer Food conference in Austin, but I’ll be sure to join the Social.

  2. My favourite elements are those sweet pumpkin place card holders (fabulous idea!) and the beautiful wheat sheath centrepiece! Gorgeous.

  3. Really beautiful tablescape. It has just the right amount of accoutrements. I can’t stand it when people over do a table and add so much that you can’t move your arm without knocking something over. Love the harvest touches and that it all sprang from your inspiration piece. Great job

  4. Carol, your table is so very lovely! The centerpiece of wheat and white hydrangeas is very unique. The lace placemates were quite a find…and the sweet ramekins were a great inspiration! Beautiful!! Pam @ Everyday Living

    1. Thank you Pam. I feel very fortunate that I already had everything on hand except the hydrangeas and the sheaves of wheat which were a new purchase. Love it when the old becomes used in a new way. Happy to be on the blog hop with you again.

  5. I love that you started off with matching napkins to your ramekins…napkins can play such an important role in tablescaping! You’ve done a terrific job in incorporating them and I love all the different colours and how they add interest by not being all the same. Your centerpiece and dishware are also spectacular. Fun to see a table set for eight too – hope your guests enjoy it!

    1. Lori, here’s my secret: I intended to use ivory napkins, but I could only find 7 (I’ll be damned if I know where the 7th one is hiding.) So I opened another drawer and there were the three colors that complemented the ramekin and it was a perfect match. Actually happy about it, but I wish I knew where that other napkin is!

    1. Thanks Christine, we use our Lenox China for every special occasion. We have the Christmas China that goes with it. You’ll definitely see it at Christmas time. Happy to be instroducted to you on the blog hop!

  6. Carol, your china is classic and I love it. I also really like those wheat sheaths, and would be thrilled if some of those landed in my possession via an estate sale like your placemats did (great score!). The muted colors and lighting in your dining room make for a really welcoming sight. Your place cards and painting of the small pumpkins – very creative. Being able to add in the vintage items, both purchased and handed down, is what really makes my heart flutter when I see a tablescape. It’s what makes it unique, and gives your guests a little something to talk about. Fun!

    1. Rita, you are so sweet. I love mixing the vintage, the old, the new and the loved and cherished. It makes everything so special. Setting a table always reminds me of helping my mom set the table as a young girl. I learned the proper placement from her. Great memories.

  7. Very creative table Carol with the wheat grass and hydrangeas. Love the galvanized container.
The ramekins are so pretty. Adding the white pumpkins is lovely. The lace placemats are beautiful and what a steal they were. Have a great weekend. It’s been so much fun blog hopping with you.

    1. Linda, I really did score a hit on those placemats. I went shopping in my own home for tablescape accessories, and except for the wheat sheaves, which I had bought a few weeks ago just because I liked them, and the hydrangeas, I had everything I needed. It make you be resourceful but isn’t that what makes home decor more fun.

  8. Carol – your tablescape is lovely! I have the same Lenox china and still enjoy using it. I just love what you did with the pumpkins. In fact, you have inspired me to paint mine white with a gold stem! Love your ramekins too! Wouldn’t be nice if all of us that participated in this blog hop could dine together at one of these tables!!

    1. Elaine, I love the idea of a great big dinner party. Everyone is invited here! I love the Lenox China. Its simplicity is what makes it so adaptable. We also have the Christmas China that goes with it. I love to mix and match. This week has been a great opportunity to meet new bloggers. Happy for the introduction!

  9. Your table is so lovely! I love the clean lines and predominately white and gold palette and then your alternating napkins bringing out the colors in those charming ramekins! I’m really liking the hay and the twig pumpkins, as well!

    1. Lory, I’ll take your comment as a big compliment. Putting all the elements together took some creative brain power, but I do like how it turned out. Great to share the blog hop with you.

  10. Carol…I love everything on your table! The white pumpkins, white hydrangeas, your china…and the wheat shocks. I was in pier one yesterday in Lexington and missed those. Perfect touch to your fall table. I will be back, as I love your blog. sheila

    1. Sheila, thanks so much for your sweet comments. I think every Pier 1 has a bit different inventory. I just bought some cool pillows at one store and they were out of the same pillows at another location. I’ll be showing the pillows on Monday’s post.

  11. Carol, you table is absolutely beautiful. I want those lace place mats. What a find! I also adore those sweet ramekins, and the gorgeous flatware! It is so pretty how you mixed the hydrangeas with the wheat bundles. What a perfect centerpiece! This is a table that I would want to sit at for awhile and enjoy delicious food and wonderful conversations with family and friends! You did a wonderful job, and I am so happy that I got to join all of you wonderful and talented girls in this Fall Tablescape Blog Hop.

    1. Shannon, it’s been a great week of discovering just how talented and creative everyone is. I am in awe of the how beautiful everyone’s tables are. Thanks for commenting and I wish I could have everyone over for a dinner, drinks and conversation ~ after hugs!

  12. Oh, Carol, everything is perfectly lovely! I don’t know where to begin! Your silverware is so gorgeous, I love all of the detail, and you have it polished so that it shines so much, it almost sparkles! The ramekins are so sweet, I can see why they served as inspiration for you. The hydrangea was a lovely choice, they are kind of like our “of season” peonies, aren’t they? The lace placemats (what a bargain) and the little white pumpkin place cards. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful table at the Autumn Tablescape Blog Hop!

    1. Chloe, thanks so much for your high praise. You deserve the kudos for putting a fun and fabulous blog hop together. I love when I really have to put my creative thinking cap on. It’s always fun to get out the “good stuff” and even more fun to mix it with the vintage, the rustic, the cherished. Can’t wait for our next blog adventure.

  13. There is such a soft spot in my heart for galvanized steel containers. The pretty hydrangeas and the lovely wheat really set the tone of the table. It goes so well with the delicate dinnerware and patterned ramekins. The contrast from the lacy place mat and crystal against the twig pumpkins creates an unforgettable and elegant tablescape.

    1. Marsha, I didn’t know a year ago when I bought that tub (it was decorations at a charity event I helped with), it would come in so handy. Don’t we all love contrasting the rustic and the elegant, the dressy and the casual? Makes for a more interesting table.

  14. It’s just lovely Carol, your centerpiece with wheat and hydrangeas is so unusual and a great way to merge the end of summer with the beginning of fall. The soft colors too, inspired by the pretty ramekins are lovely with your beautiful white china, table and chairs. It’s a dreamy setting!

    1. Jenna, thank you for the comments. Since today is the last day of September and the weather this week has turned from summer to fall, the timing of the tablescape seems just right. Enjoyed sharing the blog hop with you.

  15. Such a pretty autumn table! I love the multi-colored napkins that highlight the colors in your little ramekins! Your delicate lace placemats with shiny crystal and silver paired with the twiggy pumpkins and sheaves of wheat and chicken wire tub make for such pretty contrast of rustic and refined!

    1. Mary, thank you so much for the positive feedback. I would love to visit you by the lake. Any dining by water is the best. Alas, we have a pool but it’s not the same.
