Setting our holiday table

It’s been raining since last Thursday which is a very good thing when you haven’t seen rain for weeks.  So, after finishing all the house and front porch decorating, I could finally focus on the dining room table.  It’s the first room you see when you come in our house, so I always like it to look pretty.

 Setting Our Holiday Table

This is the first time that I have been able to set our “new” dining room table for a holiday celebration.  If you want to see how I transformed this flea market find to a French beauty, you can see it here.

First, I had to use my blue-green, or green-blue, pumpkins and my cute egg baskets from Roundtop.  I already had the burlap runners that I made a few years ago so I put them on the table first and added a wood slice that was used as part of the table setting at an ladies’ luncheon I helped decorate.  That pretty sage-green ribbon on the basket?  I have tons of it from the year my older daughter got married. (Thanks Neiman’s for wrapping all that china and crystal in it.)  More Spanish moss as filler in the egg basket around a glass of white hydrangeas (Unfortunately, those won’t last more than a few days.)

More fall decoratingI added more of the wired burlap ribbon from an other centerpiece project and used more of the sage-green ribbon to make ties in a few spots.

I added the twiggy pumpkins that I already had and a few mini-white pumpkins.

Next came 6 crystal candle sticks and tapers.

I bought these placements at an estate sale in September. I love their lacy, vintage look. Our china is Eternal by Lenox and the sterling silver is my mom’s Francis the 1st that I inherited.  Thanks, mom; you always had exquisite taste.

Almost done: our crystal wine glasses in Kylemore by Waterford that belonged to Sweet Shark and my Cherrywood by Gorham (mom, again). I love to mix up the crystal patterns.

My mom bought me this salt and pepper set when I was in college.

And now our table is set and ready for holiday dining.  Here’s the view from our entry hall.

I’m really pleased with my efforts; I love the soft colors and the mix of rustic and elegant elements. Bringing out the china and crystal and silver is always special for me.  My mom was an awesome hostess and I always loved helping her set the table when she and my dad entertained.  Lots of great memories there.  Do you have some like that?

I wish you could come to dinner.  Just bring your favorite side dish.

Now I just have to cook!
